Our guests ask us anyway: where do you eat yourselves? It is a good question, and it deserves a good answer. That is why we prefer to send those personally — tuned to your dates, the number of people, the kind of evening you have in mind, and which chefs are on form at that moment.
We deliberately do not publish a general list on this page. Three reasons.
One — season
On the Belgian coast you do not eat the same in July as in October. A fish bar that is outstanding in summer closes its doors three months later. A restaurant that serves calmly in low season can buckle under the August crowds. A fixed list ages quickly.
Two — personal taste
What makes a good restaurant depends on who is at the table. For a birthday dinner with grandparents we pick a calmer address than for two thirty-somethings on a foodie weekend. Fish lovers get different tips than meat lovers. Those happy to drive far for the best get different names than those who prefer to stay nearby.
Three — our own experience
We eat in the region regularly ourselves. The names we pass on are places we have been to ourselves in the past year — not from a TripAdvisor top-10 or an old guidebook. That means we sometimes steer you away from a place that looks impressive on paper, and the other way around. A personal conversation, or a short e-mail, makes more room for that than a fixed page.
What we promise is a targeted answer. What we do not promise is a general list.
What we do like to share
The west coast of Belgium has its own culinary character — less about seeing-and-being-seen than the east coast, with a reserve typical of the Westhoek. Fish comes straight from the Nieuwpoort auction. Shrimp are peeled by those who catch them. Wine lists lean, rightly, on Burgundies and Champagnes. And in the quieter months of the year, chefs who are overrun in summer will calmly serve a vol-au-vent on request.
For those who prefer to stay in, we arrange — on request — a private chef who cooks in your home. From a calm four-course menu for two to a festive meal for twelve, with respect for seasonal coastal produce. Indicative price €90 — 180 per person, excluding drinks. Please request at least 72 hours in advance.
